Decker's Duplicity | Preview Part 3

To conclude our previews, we'll take a look at the individual elements that round out the expansion. Firstly, it includes 7 new objective cards: 2 copper, 2 silver, 2 gold, and 1 Mother's Ghost. I won't spoil them for you now; you can enjoy them when you have the box in your hands.

We also have six new advanced command cards. We agreed that the base game's arsenal of cards is large enough, and besides, we really wanted to add something new, rather than just expanding it. The game also needs to give you access to the cards you need at any given time, which could become difficult with too many cards in the upgrade deck. We currently have no plans to add any more. But these six new cards provide a cool extra.

Then there are four more (large) cards. Firstly, we have an additional overview card showing the game setup. We listened to your feedback and wanted to make it even easier to set up the game in the correct order, following the individual steps without constantly having to refer back to the instructions.

Additionally, there's a new upgrade card for the SMC. But this time, it's not one that simply makes the game harder; it's one that shortens the playtime. This is helpful, for example, if you want to show the game to other players and need to reduce the playtime for multiple people. This has opened up a door of new possibilities for us in development (pun intended).

If only two cycles are played instead of three (since the game lengthens with an increasing number of players), it's now possible to save a third of the playtime by jumping directly from copper to gold. To still achieve gold, players receive several free upgrades. Of course, this also has the added bonus of being very well-suited for demos.

The last two cards are a completely new card type: the missions.

The idea is to sit down to a game with a predefined setup and objectives. A compelling story gives players an immersive experience, allowing them to rediscover the game. The initial plan was to create a campaign with multiple missions, but it's too early for that, so we're taking it one step at a time. The missions provide a task that also allows for the telling of a proper story.

This mission will demand a lot from you and will help you delve even deeper into the story of Deckers to immerse.

And one more surprise for everyone. There's a third mission that can also be played with just the base game. This one isn't in the box, but... all pre-order customers will receive them as a bonus. And for those who forget to pre-order, the mission can also be obtained from us at the trade fair in Essen in exchange for a donation to a charity. For those who can't make it to Essen: we'll try to ensure that you can order it from us for a small fee to cover costs.

I hope you are as excited about Deckers Duplicity as I am about your reactions.
